Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every person should have a simple, decent, affordable place to live in dignity and safety. An important piece of that is sustainable building, which fits naturally with our mission.

          

     Low-income families spend nearly 1/3 of their      income on energy costs.

 

By increasing the efficiency and durability of our homes, we increase the affordability for the family as they live and grow. Well built homes are also healthier homes for the occupants.

 

Many of the strategies for building a sustainable, 'green' project are free, but require training, leadership and oversight. With this project AAHA will provide many of the services needed by affiliates at a rate 50% or less than typically charged by providers and raters.

 

Other services provided by AAHA including plan review, site and leadership training have previously been cost prohibitive for affiliates or not available at all. AAHA also provides assistance in mitigating and meeting additional costs incurred by some advanced building materials and strategies when compared to current building practices.
