E*Trade

E*Trade Financial began partnering with Alabama Association of Habitat following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. In late 2005, E*Trade Financial awarded a grant totaling $140,000 to AAHA to distribute to affiliates serving the gulf coast community rebuilding efforts. The grant money was distributed to sponsor a HFH House in Mobile County and another HFH House in Baldwin County. AAHA was also able to purchase and stock two large utility trailers with essential tools needed for recovery building. The trailers will be used in Mobile, and Baldwin County until the conclusion of Katrina relief efforts. Afterwards, the trailers will be used by affiliates facing Disaster Relief.

The partnership continued with E*Trade by developing a First Time Homebuyers program for homeowners in Alabama. This program offers a three-to-one cash match on any downpayment dollars contributed by the homeowner family up to $5,000 per household. The First Time Homebuyers program enables a mortgage reduction, thus, making the home more affordable.

In January of 2007, E*Trade awarded $150,000 to AAHA including a $25,000 administrative grant to support this program.

We are grateful for the innovative development of this program by Kelvin James at E*Trade. He continues to support the work of Habitat for Humanity through innovative programs and special needs funding.
